Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of common questions that our clients ask us. If you need more information don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
I have an indoor cat. Does it need to be spayed or neutered?
While an indoor cat may not have the same risks of pregnancy, spaying and neutering can also provide other benefits, such as removing behavioral problems caused by hormones, such as being in heat or more aggressive during breeding cycles.
Should my pet stop eating before surgery?
We’ll advise the specifics well in advance of the surgery, but in general, you should stop feeding your pet the night before the surgery, but continued drinking of water is acceptable. After the anesthesia has worn off, we will provide food.
Is anesthetic safe for a dog?
When used properly, anesthetic is as safe for dogs as it is for humans. To minimize any potential complications, Animal Health Clinic will perform blood testing and other pre-screening procedures before scheduling a surgical operation.
My pet has bad breath. What should I do?
Unfortunately, bad breath is commonly a sign of dental problems, such as periodontal disease. On a dental visit, we’ll perform a cleaning and a check-up as well as teach you the best ways to accomplish day-to-day pet dental care.
What brand of pet food do you recommend?
There are many superior pet food brands and the exact formula we advise differs depending on the particular needs of the pet. In general, look for products where ingredients are clearly identified rather than generic terms like “meat” or “animal.”
How do I know if my dog has worms?
The most common signs of worms, including heartworms, are bloody diarrhea, rapid weight loss, constant scratching of the rear, or visible worms/eggs. At the first sight of any of these symptoms, contact Animal Health Clinic.
